As much as I’m not racist and practically worship Lewis Hamilton, I can’t help but laugh when my grandad, in his grandfatherly, slightly annoyed and somewhat passionate and over patriotic tone calls him ‘the little blackie’. Just the way he says it…I just can’t…There are no words….

And my uncle is sat there looking like ohhh god he’s off on one again (if you hadn’t clicked my grandad ever so slightly doesn’t like Lewis Hamilton very much at all)

Aaaaah old people and the joys they bring.

New Los MiniDrivers - Indian Grand Prix!

What Formula One 2011 taught me part one

Sebastian Vettel: He has had a dream season, broke a stupid amount of records, become the youngest double world champion. It’s been a blur for everyone in the sport

Mark Webber: He’s had team orders used against him this season, always been second best to Sebastian, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t a good driver. Everyone respects him hugely.

Lewis Hamilton: Lewis has had such a bad season, but instead of just caving in and falling, he is fighting against all the bad things pushing him back, trying to get back up to the top again.

Jenson Button: Last to first in Canada. Nothing short of a godly performance. Stunning.

Fernando Alonso: Firstly, after Robert Kubicas accident, he was the first driver out there to see him, secondly, his kindness towards Lewis. I know they have never seen eye to eye, but this year, he has seemed to make much more of an effort with him to get along, and we even saw hugging and joking at Jenson Button’s 200th Grand Prix party. It showed that he does care.

Felipe Massa: After his awful accident in Hungary, to come back and still be near his old form is a remarkable feat. He got knocked down lots last year, but he has still picked himself up and fought on.

He’s on team Hamilton :’)

He’s on team Hamilton :’)

Formula One driver tributes to Dan Wheldon

  • Lewis Hamilton: This is an extremely sad day. Dan was a racer I’d followed throughout my career, as I often followed in his footsteps as we climbed the motorsport ladder in the UK. He was an extremely talented driver. As a British guy, who not only went over to the States but who twice won the Indy 500, this is a tragic loss at such a young age. My heart goes out to his family and friends during this extremely difficult time. #DanWheldon.
  • Jenson Button: Just woken up to the most horrific news.. Dan Wheldon RIP. I have so many good memories of racing with Dan in the early 90's, a true fighter. We've lost a legend in our sport but also a great guy. I can't begin to imagine what his family are going through and my thoughts are with them at this very difficult time.
  • Rubens Barrichello: Just got out from the plane and got the terrible news about the death of our friend #DanWheldon. Will always remember the great times we had at karting in Brazil my friend. Rest in peace #DanWheldon
  • Karun Chandok: just bumped into [Mark Webber] in singapore airport who told me the shocking news about dan wheldon... thoughts & prayers go out to his family
  • Sergio Perez: How sad to hear the news of Dan Weldon! :( is sad when it happens to a partner! Please ask love for his family 2 left babies
  • Narain Karthikeyan: A sad day for motorsport - amidst all of its easy to forget that hazards of motor-racing still exist. RIP Dan Wheldon
  • Pedro De La Rosa: Our thoughts go to Dan Wheldon's family. Can not imagine what they are going through. Always on our mind.
  • Pastor Maldonado: Sorry about Wheldon, we have to work and increasing safety on the slopes, especially on the ovals.
  • Sebastien Buemi: RIP Dan Wheldon. Very sad to read the news! Sad day for the whole motorsport family!

I get some people don’t support Lewis.

First I think you should read his book, before being so quick to judge. I’m not forcing my opinions on everyone, but I think some people have biased views, particularly on Lewis because he is such a big target for bad press, and they see all the bad press and this is what they think of him. He’s not had an easy life - he’s not come from a family with some money like Seb or Mark. I think people should just have a sense for the journey has had to take to get into Formula One, and I think that can help you understand a little why he gets so frustrated when he does bad and so emotional when he does good.

To be honest, I think if he were a bad driver, he wouldn’t have the likes of Kamui and Jaime and Vitaly hailing him as one of the best ever - Jaime even called him his hero! Of all the people, he could have at least picked his fellow Spaniard, Fernando, as his hero, but no - he picked Lewis.

Secondly, I think people should just learn to be more magnanimous towards him, or towards anyone for that matter. Fair enough, you might not like him, but you can’t really call yourself a fan of the sport if you don’t respect good driving and hate parts of drivers. Lewis did a fucking brilliant drive today to topple the Bulls. So just say congratulations and be done with it. Stop moaning at him for smiling - as I said before, if you put yourself in his shoes, imagine you’ve lived his life and this bad season he’s been having - what emotions can you expect his to show other than numbness?

It’s no mean feat to take down Red Bull from pole, and he deserves congratulations. I, no matter who is on pole, make sure to congratulate them, because you have to give them respect for the good drive they did.

Every driver has good qualities and bad qualities. Contrary to popular belief, the sun does not shine out of Sebastians arse, and Fernando Alonso isn’t an asshole - Lewis Hamilton isn’t a spoilt, childish crashkid - he isn’t perfect either, no one is, but people should embrace the good qualities in every driver. You should make it your mission to find things about each driver your respect - I started a list of the 100 things I admire most about Fernando Alonso - no joke - I want to like him, and I think other people should want that want too - not only so you don’t have to go around disliking drivers, but so you can understand them and their style and their journey more - from the point of view as a fan of the sport, and just general interest. It gives everything a whole new level and depth, and makes the sport a much greater pleasure to watch!

Anyway, congratulations Lewis, you deserve that pole - you’ve been quick all weekend, so ride the emotions and take in the positive energy. Well done Sebastian - the McLaren’s were incredible this weekend and to split them is no easy feat. Well done Jenson, keeping up your brilliant drive last week and staying in the top three. Well done Felipe - officially faster than Fernando! And well done to Jaime - so close to Q1, but tomorrow looks good for you and Sebby!
