Why Hamilton got the advantage over Rosberg
Had some bits of F1 car drivetrain in our motorsport design lecture today. Things are getting gooood!! Our lecturer brought in a standard driveshaft from a formula student car and the F1 driveshaft, both were the same length but the F1 driveshaft was hugeee and about a third of the weight. And consider this feather-light thing has to take the torque of an F1 V8 engine, its complete witchcraft. And it was welded. If you saw it, you would never have guessed in your dilliest daydreams it was put together so crudely but it was completely perfect. Ahhhh its just so cooooool :D
Jackie Stewart is such a fucking hero. Like some people should be seriously ashamed of and disgusted in themselves; the sort that waste their life away just being selfish and attention seeking and cruel - just anyone who doesn’t attempt to do anything kind with their life.
He’s dyslexic, can’t even say the alphabet, and yet he’s saved millions of lives.
Formula One pioneers automotive technology. Buttons on the steering wheel? Came from Formula One. Smart suspension? Came from Formula One. Material research and crumple zones? Came from Formula One. Digital dashboard - everything from the clock to the radio to the speedometer? Came from Formula One. Tyres? Came from Formula One.
Everything about the pure technology of road cars - the electronics, the mechanics, the safety. It all came from Formula One.
And the most important thing - safety - came from one person: Jackie Stewart. The man pioneered safety, he pioneered ambulances at circuits, helmets, better technology and safer cars, and more importantly road safety. He gave lectures to kids on road safety and care, he would nag every one around to improve the safety of their cars or tracks or roads. He pioneered technology in the 70s, which has slowly been coming into road cars, has been advanced on modern race cars, and has helped save millions of lives: In motorsport and in road cars all over the world.
Hero. Such a hero. And if you doubt me, watch Formula One: The killer years. A tragic era but Sir Jackie made such a huge impact and we should all be forever greatful.
Half my primary school classmates and high school class now have babies. Jeez it makes me so broody. I want a little baby who I can dress up in little race suits and take to races with little baby ear defenders and watch their little face light up when the cars zoom by. asdfghjkllkjhgfds. Also I miss F1 too much. And It’s only been a week…
Today really is the end of an era.
Michael Schumachers last ever race.
Lewis Hamiltons last race for McLaren.
Jake Humphreys last ever F1 show.
The last race for some of the drivers on the grid.
So many other things too. Who knows what will happen today - The Vettel domination could end. Who knows what will happen over the winter break - Other drivers may loose their seat, team members may leave Formula One, we might loose tracks for future races, Formula One officials may change. And not just what’s to come - This season marked the end of an era with the passing of Sid Watkins - a huge part of Formula One safety and someone who we should all be incredibly thankful for.
You know what? I think I might just end up crying today.
Formula One is back! And even better news: according to the Spanish, Jaime Alguersuari is in secret talks with several teams about a seat next year with rumor even being that he already has one.
I am officially coining the term (the Mercedes) floor palm
For times when a face palm just isn’t enough…
